The achievements of Maureen FitzSimons as a child performer in America (which we refer to as Maureen O'Hara today) would have definitely put her into the child-prodigy class. For a child of Irish heritage surrounded by gifted parents and a loving family, these were very natural traits. Maureen was born in Ranelagh - a suburb of Dublin the capital of Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was a gifted contralto. Her father, Charles FitzSimons, managed the business of Dublin and was also the owner of the well-known Irish soccer team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen FitzSimons was 2nd in the family of six FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off this gorgeous group. Maureen was an athletic natural and enjoyed playing tough athletic games. She combined this interest with an equally natural talent to perform. It was evident by her winning pretty much every Feis award for drama and performances in the theater that her nation offered. When she was fourteen, she was accepted into the Abbey Theater, where her dream was to pursue operatic singing and classical theater.
